Herigonius (Moon)

Named after Herigone, Pierre Herigonius - French mathematician, astronomer (fl. 1634).

Herigonius is a small lunar impact crater that is located in the southern part of the Oceanus Procellarum, to the northeast of the crater Gassendi. Herigonius is roughly circular, with an inward bulge and narrower inner wall along the northeast. In the interior of the sloping inner walls is a floor about half the diameter of the crater. About 60 kilometers to the west is a sinuous rille designated Rima Herigonius. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
