Brouwer (Moon)

Named after Dirk Brouwer - American astronomer (1902-1966) and Luitzen Egbertus Jan Brouwer - Dutch mathematician (1881-1966).

Brouwer is a large lunar crater that is located in the southern hemisphere on the far side. Intruding into the western rim is the younger and somewhat smaller crater Langmuir. Further to the east-southeast is the larger walled plain Blackett. This is an old crater formation with a rim that has been heavily worn due to subsequent impacts. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
