Langmuir (Moon)

Named after Irving Langmuir - American physicist, chemist; Nobel laureate (1881-1957).

Langmuir is an impact crater. It is located in a region to the southwest of the Mare Orientale impact basin. Langmuir is bracketed. It partly overlaps the rims of these two craters, making it the youngest of the three. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
