Bowen (Moon)

Named after Ira Sprague Bowen - American astronomer (1898-1973).

Bowen is a small lunar crater that is located to the southwest of the Montes Haemus, on the edge of a small lunar mare named the Lacus Doloris. Bowen was previously designated Manilius A before the formation was named by the IAU. The crater Manilius is located to the south, at the opposite shore of the Lacus. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
