Tacchini (Moon)

Named after Pietro Tacchini - Italian astronomer (1838-1905).

Tacchini is a lunar crater on the northwestern edge of the Mare Smythii, near the eastern limb. It lies just to the south of the prominent crater Neper, and was designated Neper K before being given its current name by the IAU. To the west-southwest is the crater pair of Schubert and Back. This crater is roughly circular in form, with a rim that is better defined along the eastern side. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
