Roche (Moon)

Named after Édouard Albert Roche - French astronomer (1820-1883).

Roche is a large crater on the far side from the Earth. The prominent crater Pauli lies across the southern rim , and the outer rampart of Pauli covers a portion 's interior floor. To the north-northwest is the crater Eötvös, and just to the west-northwest lies Rosseland. The western rim has been somewhat distorted and straightened. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
