Avicenna (Moon)

Named after Abu Ali Al-Hussein Ibn Abdallah Avicenna - Persian doctor (980-1037).

Avicenna is a lunar crater that lies on the far side , just beyond the western limb on the northern rim of the Lorentz basin. The northern half has been obliterated by subsequent, overlapping impacts. The southern and southeastern rim is worn and eroded, but the outline can still be discerned. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
