Richards (Moon)

Named after Theodore William Richards - American chemist; Nobel laureate (1868-1928).

Richards is a small lunar impact crater that is located in the northern interior of the walled plain Mendeleev, on the far side. It lies about half-way. This is a circular, cup-shaped crater with a small interior floor at the midpoint of the sloping inner walls. The interior sides have a higher albedo than the surroundings. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
