Naumann (Moon)

Named after Karl Friedrich Naumann - German geologist (1797-1873).

Naumann is a lunar impact crater located on the Oceanus Procellarum in the northwest sector. It is a bowl-shaped, symmetrical crater with a high-albedo rim. There are no notable impact craters overlaying the rim edge or the interior. The nearest named craters are Lichtenberg to the southwest and Nielsen to the southeast. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
