Markov (Moon)

Named after Aleksandr Vladimirovich Markov - Soviet astrophysicist (1897-1968) and Andrei Andreevich Markov - Russian mathematician (1856-1922).

Markov is a lunar impact crater that is located in the northwestern part of the moon’s near side, in the Sinus Roris region of the Oceanus Procellarum. It lies to the south of the crater Oenopides, and is connected to the continental region to the north by ridges along the northern rim. The rim of this crater is not appreciably eroded by impacts, and retains a sharp edge at the crest. The perimeter is roughly circular, with some minor outward bulges particularly along the southern and eastern edge. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
