Minkowski (Moon)

Named after Hermann Minkowski - German mathematician (1864-1909) and Rudolph Leo Bernhard Minkowski - American astronomer (1895-1976).

Minkowski is a lunar crater on the far side , in the lower latitudes of the southern hemisphere. It lies about one crater diameter to the north-northeast of Lemaître, a formation of similar dimension. To the northwest is the flooded crater Baldet, and to the southeast lies Fizeau. The outer rim is heavily eroded, and forms little more than an irregular circular ridge in the surface. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
