Mezentsev (Moon)

Named after Yurij Borisovich Mezentsev - Soviet rocket scientist (1929-1965).

Mezentsev is a lunar crater that is located in the high northern latitudes. It lies just to the west of the smaller Niepce. To the southwest is the larger Stebbins, to the west-southwest is Hippocrates and to the northwest is Heymans. This is a worn and eroded crater with a low outer rim and a level interior. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
