Named after Corneille-Jean-François Heymans - Belgian physiologist; Nobel laureate (1892-1968).

Heymans is a lunar impact crater that is located in the northern part on the far side from the Earth. It lies. To the southeast is the larger Mezentsev. This crater has been worn by subsequent impacts, but retains the general appearance of its original form. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
