Ibn-Rushd (Moon)

Named after Abu al-Walîd Ibn Rushd (Averroës) Ibn-Rushd - Spanish-Arab philosopher/doctor (1126-1198).

Ibn-Rushd is a lunar impact crater located to the northwest of the larger crater Cyrillus. The crater is somewhat eroded with age, and the southern rim is overlain by a pair of smaller craters named Cyrillus B and C. The crater floor is flat, and lacks a central peak. This crater was identified as Cyrillus B prior to being renamed by the IAU in honor of Muhammad ibn Rushd, a 12th-century Muslim polymath from Andalusia, whose many scientific accomplishments included analysis of the lunar surface. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
