Hopmann (Moon)

Named after Josef Hopmann - Austrian astronomer (1890-1975).

Hopmann is a lunar crater that lies in the southern hemisphere. It is attached to the northern part of the large walled plain Poincaré. Less than one crater diameter to the north-northwest is the crater Garavito. The outer rim of this crater has undergone some wear due to impact erosion. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
