Abulfeda (Moon)

Named after Ismail Ibn Abū al-Fidā Abulfeda - Syrian geographer (1273-1331).

Abulfeda is a lunar impact crater located in the central highlands. To the northeast is the crater Descartes, and to the south-southeast is Almanon. To the north is the crater Dollond. A chain of craters named the Catena Abulfeda runs. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
