Almanon (Moon)

Named after Abdalla Al Mamun Almanon - Persian astronomer (786-833).

Almanon is located to the south-southeast of Abulfeda, and to the north-northeast of the smaller crater Geber. The rim forms a slightly distorted circle, with outward bulges to the north and southwest. The crater pair Almanon A and Almanon B is attached to the exterior of the southern rim. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
