Al-Khwarizmi (Moon)

Named after Abū Ja'far Muhammad Ibn Mūsā Al-Khwarizmi - Iraqi mathematician (unkn-after 847).

Al-Khwarizmi is a lunar impact crater located on the far side. It lies to the southeast of the crater Moiseev, and northeast of Saenger. The western inner wall is much wider than along the eastern side. The eastern rim overlays a pair of craters, including Al-Khwarizmi J. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
