Blanchard (Moon)

Named after Jean-Pierre-François Blanchard - French aeronaut (1753-1809).

Blanchard is a lunar crater that lies on the far side , just behind the southwestern limb. It lies to the south-southwest of the crater Arrhenius, and northwest of Pilâtre. Further to the south is the rugged terrain to the north of the walled plain Hausen. The rim is worn and rounded, with a slight elongation along a northeastern direction. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
