Volkov (Moon)

Named after Vladislav Nikolayevich Volkov - Soviet engineer, cosmonaut (1935-1971).

Volkov is a lunar crater. It is located to the north of the prominent crater Tsiolkovskiy, and east-southeast of Dobrovol'skiy. Overlying the southeastern rim is the satellite crater Volkov J, and the two have merged to form a figure-8 shape. The crater Lander is attached to the southwest rim J, making this a triple-crater formation. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
