Van Wijk (Moon)

Named after Uco Wijk - Dutch-American astronomer (1924-1966).

Van Wijk is a small lunar impact crater that lies in the southern part of the far side. It is located to the north-northwest of the huge walled plain Schrödinger, and to the southwest of the crater Fechner. The rim of this crater has a noticeable outward bulge toward the south, but it is otherwise circular. The perimeter remains sharp-edged, with some wear along the north and northwest faces. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
