Barkla (Moon)

Named after Charles Glover Barkla - British physicist; Nobel laureate (1877-1944).

Barkla is a lunar impact crater that lies near the eastern limb. It is located to the east of the prominent crater Langrenus, and was formerly designated Langrenus A before being renamed by the IAU in 1979. Due east is Kapteyn, a formation only slightly larger with a similar size. Southwest is the crater Lamé. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
