Bancroft (Moon)

Named after Wilder Dwight Bancroft - American chemist (1867-1953).

Bancroft is a small, bowl-shaped impact crater located to the southwest of Archimedes on the Mare Imbrium. A wide, shallow depression runs from the rim southeast to the Montes Archimedes. There are some clefts at the edge of the mare to the west and southwest of the crater. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
