Tawhaki Patera (Io)

Māori lightening god.

Tawhaki Patera is an active volcano on Jupiter's moon Io. It is located on Io's leading hemisphere. Tawhaki is an Ionian patera, a type of volcanic crater similar to a caldera, 49.8 kilometers deep. Tawhaki Patera was first seen as a dark spot in low-resolution Voyager 1 in March 1979. (wikipedia entry)

A patera is an irregular crater, or a complex one with scalloped edges. Usually the dish-shaped depression atop a volcano. On Io they are named after words for fire, sun or thunder; volcano gods, heroes, goddesses or mythical blacksmiths.
