Tamm (Moon)

Named after Igor Yevgenyevich Tamm - Soviet physicist, Nobel laureate (1895-1971).

Tamm is a shallow lunar impact crater. It is located to the west-northwest of the much larger and more prominent crater Chaplygin. Attached to the south-southwestern outer rim is the smaller van den Bos. There is a gap in the southern rim where these two craters are joined together. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
