Schröter (Moon)

Named after Johann Hieronymus Schröter - German astronomer (1745-1816).

Schröter lies to the north of the craters Sömmering and Mösting. This cleft begins at a small crater in the mare, then follows a line to the south-southeast. The rim is heavily worn and eroded, with a wide gap in the southern wall and a deep indentation to the southeast. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
