Saunder (Moon)

Named after Samuel Arthur Saunder - British mathematician, selenographer (1852-1912).

The outer wall is irregular and broken in several locations, forming the overall shape of a pentagon. The interior has been flooded with lava, forming a level surface just below the rim. The floor lacks a central peak, but there are low rises in the southeast quadrant and a tiny craterlet towards the north rim. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
