Sabine (Moon)

Named after Sir Edward Sabine - Irish physicist, astronomer (1788-1883).

Sabine is a lunar crater that forms a nearly matching pair with Ritter to the northwest. The two rims are separated by a distance of only a couple of kilometers. To the west is the bowl-shaped crater Schmidt, and farther to the north are Manners and Arago. The outer rim of this crater is roughly circular and featureless. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
