Parkhurst (Moon)

Named after John A. Parkhurst - American astronomer (1861-1925).

Parkhurst is a heavily degraded lunar crater to the northeast of the Mare Australe on the far side. To the north-northeast is the crater Scaliger and to the southwest lies the dark-floored Gernsback. The small lunar mare named Lacus Solitudinis lies due north. Little remains of this crater formation other than the uneven outline of the outer rim. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
