Palmieri (Moon)

Named after Luigi Palmieri - Italian physicist, mathematician (1807-1896).

Palmieri is a lunar crater that lies to the southwest of the Mare Humorum, in the southwestern quadrant 's near side. This crater formation has an eroded outer rim that has a gap along the southeastern side and a pair of narrow gaps along the northern rim. The remains of a small, flooded crater form the northern edge of the gap along the southeast. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
