Neumayer (Moon)

Named after Georg Balthasar von Neumayer - German meteorologist, hydrographer (1826-1909).

Neumayer is a lunar impact crater that lies near the southern limb. At this location the crater appears much foreshortened and can only be observed during favorable librations. It is attached to the southeastern rim of the slightly larger crater Helmholtz. To the south-southwest is the crater Demonax, and east-southeast is Hale. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
