Artamonov (Moon)

Named after Nikolaj N. Artamonov - Soviet rocket scientist (1906-1965).

Artamonov is a lunar crater on the far side. The eroded outer rim does not have the circular shape of most lunar craters, and instead has the overall shape of three or four merged craters. The largest of these formations is in the south, with smaller circular bulges to the north and east. The interior floor has been resurfaced by subsequent flows of basaltic lava, leaving a flat, featureless floor that appears darker due to lower albedo. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
