Lampland (Moon)

Named after Carl Otto Lampland - American astronomer (1873-1951).

Lampland is a crater on the far side. It lies to the west-southwest of the crater Subbotin, and to the north-northwest of Eötvös. About four crater diameters to the north-northwest lies the prominent Tsiolkovskiy. This is a worn crater with a smaller crater intruding slightly into the west-southwestern rim. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
