La Pérouse (Moon)

Named after Jean Francois de Galoup, Comte De La Pérouse - French explorer (1741-1788).

La Pérouse is a lunar impact crater that is located near the eastern limb. It lies northwest of the larger crater Ansgarius, and to the east of Kapteyn. This crater appears foreshortened due to its location, but the rim is nearly circular when viewed from orbit. The rim is not significantly worn by subsequent impacts, and its features are well-defined. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
