Klaproth (Moon)

Named after Martin Heinrich Klaproth - German chemist, mineralogist (1743-1817).

Klaproth is an old lunar crater that lies in the rugged southern highlands 's near side. Due to its location, this crater appears significantly foreshortened when viewed from the Earth. The southern rim of the crater is overlain by the similar-sized crater Casatus, and to the north-northeast lies Blancanus. The outer rim has been deeply eroded, incised, and reshaped by a long history of bombardment. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
