Jacobi (Moon)

Named after Karl Gustav Jacob Jacobi - German mathematician (1804-1851).

Jacobi is a lunar crater that is located in the southern highlands on the near side. It lies southeast of the crater Lilius, with Cuvier to the north-northwest and Baco to the northeast. The crater is 68 kilometers in diameter and 3.3 kilometers in depth. It is from the Pre-Nectarian period, 4.55 to 3.92 billion years ago. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
