Anderson (Moon)

Named after John August Anderson - American astronomer (1876-1959).

Anderson is a lunar impact crater on the far side. It is located to the northwest of the crater Sharonov, and the satellite crater Sharanov X is attached to the southeast rim. To the northeast is the peculiar formation Buys-Ballot, and to the east-southeast lies the larger crater Spencer Jones. The outer rim is heavily worn and eroded. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
