Harriot (Moon)

Named after Thomas Harriot - British mathematician, astronomer (1560-1621).

Harriot is a lunar crater on the far side from the Earth. It lies just to the north of the much larger crater Seyfert. To the northeast is the crater Cantor. About one and a half crater diameters to the north is the eastern end of a crater chain named Catena Sumner. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
