Haidinger (Moon)

Named after Wilhelm Karl von Haidinger - Austrian geologist, physicist (1795-1871).

Haidinger is a lunar impact crater that is located in the southwestern part. Just to the southwest of the crater is the small lunar mare named Lacus Timoris. Haidinger lies northwest of the crater Wilhelm and east of the irregular formation Hainzel. The outer rim of this crater is nearly circular, with slight outward bulges along the western and northeastern parts of the rim. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
