Gavrilov (Moon)

Named after Aleksandr Ivanovich Gavrilov - Soviet rocket engineer (1884-1955), Igor V.; Soviet astronomer (1928-1982).

Gavrilov is a lunar impact crater on the far side. This is a circular and symmetric crater formation with some erosion of the outer rim. There are some small craterlets in the eastern half of the interior, and a small central rise near the midpoint. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
