Drude (Moon)

Named after Paul Karl Ludwig Drude - German physicist (1863-1906).

Drude is a lunar impact crater that lies on the far side , in the rugged Montes Cordillera range that forms the outer ring around the Mare Orientale impact basin. It is located just behind the west-southwest limb, and this area is sometimes brought into sight from Earth during favorable librations. However, even at such times, the crater is viewed from the edge and little detail can be seen. This is a circular crater with a sharp edge, sloping inner walls and a fairly level interior. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
