Tharp (Moon)

Named after the Marie; Geologist and oceanographer, created first comprehensive map of the ocean floor and is credited with discovering the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (1920-1986).

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
