Democritus (Moon)

Named after Democritus - Greek astronomer, philosopher (c. 460-360 B.C.).

Democritus is a lunar impact crater on the northern part , just to the north of the Mare Frigoris. Just to the south is the lava-flooded crater Gärtner, which forms a bay on the mare. Directly to the north is Arnold, another flooded formation. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
