Al-Biruni (Moon)

Named after Abū ar-Rayhān Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Birūnī Al-Biruni - Persian astronomer, mathematician, geographer (973-1048).

Al-Biruni is an impact crater that lies on the far side , just beyond the eastern limb. This portion of the surface is sometimes brought into sight due to librations , but due to its location the crater is viewed from the side. Al-Biruni lies to the south of the crater Joliot, and to the northeast of Goddard. The rim forms a somewhat irregular circle, with a slight outward bulge in the northeast wall, and a somewhat wider inner wall to the west. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
