Charlier (Moon)

Named after Carl Wilhelm Ludwig Charlier - Swedish astronomer (1862-1934).

Charlier is a lunar crater on the far side. To the south-southeast is the larger crater Kovalevskaya, and northeast is Perrine. This is an eroded crater formation with a damaged outer rim. The most intact section of the rim is along the northeast quadrant; the rim to the south and west has been eroded and partly covered by small craters. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
