Bassi (Venus)

Named after Laura Bassi - Italian physicist, mathematician (1711-1778).

Laura Maria Caterina Bassi was an Italian physicist and academic, recognized as the first woman in the world to earn a university chair in a scientific field of studies. She received a doctoral degree from the University of Bologna in May 1732, the third academic qualification ever bestowed on a woman by a university, and the first woman to earn a professorship in physics at a university in Europe. She was the first woman to be offered an official teaching position at a university in Europe. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On Venus they are named after deceased women who have made outstanding or fundamental contributions to their field (if over 20 km). If smaller common female first names are used.
