Named after Grigorij N. Regio - Russian astronomer; discoverer of Gaspra (1885-1946).
A regio is a large area marked by reflectivity or color distinctions from adjacent areas, or a broad geographic region. On Gaspra they are named after discoverer of Gaspra, and Galileo project participants.
