Marth (Mars)

Named after Albert Marth - German astronomer (1828-1897).

Marth Crater is an impact crater in the Oxia Palus quadrangle on Mars at 13.0° N and 3.5° W. and is 98.4 km in diameter. Light and dark markings on the surface are due to dust and sand blown around. Some of the dark sand has formed into dunes. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On Mars large craters are named after deceased scientists, writers and others who have contributed to the lore of Mars. Small creaters (less than 60km) are named after small towns and villages.
