Named after Nikolai Stepanovich Regio - Soviet and Ukrainian astronomer, discovered asteroid (2867) Steins (1931-2004).
A regio is a large area marked by reflectivity or color distinctions from adjacent areas, or a broad geographic region. On Steins they are named after discoverer of Steins.
