To Ngoc Van (Mercury)

Named after To Ngoc Van - Vietnamese painter (1906-1954).

To Ngoc Van was discovered in January 2008 during the first flyby of the planet by MESSENGER spacecraft. The size of the pit is 21 × 10 km. Such a feature may have resulted from collapse of a magma chamber underlying the central part of the crater. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On Mercury they are named after deceased artists, musicians, painters, and authors who have made outstanding or fundamental contributions to their field and have been recognized as art historically significant figures for more than 50 years.
